Revolutionary War-dated autograph document signed by William Fosset, written on behalf of his superior and the Chaplain of the Continental Congress William White, giving permission to Mathias Harrison, the private secretary of the President of the Continental Congress Thomas Mifflin, to checkout a book: “Mr. White desires Mr. Fosset to let Mr. Mathias Harrison leave a Book on Acct of his share at any time.”.

Before the present document was created and during the American Revolution, Fosset served as Thomas Jefferson's carpenter, White was a trustee to the University of Pennsylvania and rector of Christ and St. Peter's Churches in Philadelphia, and Harrison served in the 5th Battalion of the Pennsylvania militia. The document is one page with a docket on the verso, created on July 11, 1781, measures 7” by 4.5”, and in fine condition having been attached to a larger slip of paper.
