DESCRIPTION

First published in 1826, this is a wonderful study of the county of York, and its surrounding regions and landscape, richly illustrated throughout by Victorian topographical engraver Nathaniel Whittock, who was known for producing birds-eye views of York, Oxford and London.

Volume I, published in 1828, is illustrated with an engraved title page and frontispiece, with a further thirteen plates. Collated, complete.

Volume II, published in 1831, is illustrated with an engraved title page and frontispiece, with a further twenty-nine plates. Collated, lacking one plate, and with two plates not called for inserted. Three of the original plates are laid down on new leaves.

Volume III, published in 1831, is illustrated with an engraved title page and frontispiece, and ninety-four plates. Collated, lacking three plates. Eight plates laid down on new leaves.

Endpapers renewed, lacking all original blanks.

Rebound in half morocco, with cloth covered boards, and endpapers renewed. Rubbing to back strip head and tail. Volume III joints starting, and firmly held. Internally, firmly held. Frontispiece of volume III partially rebacked. Eleven plates laid down on new leaves, with one plate detached and loosely inserted. Tape repairs to reverse of four plates of volume III.
