In the early part of the 20th century, most green-shaded bankers lamps were made by three different companies......Emeralite lamps were made by H. G. McFaddin & Co. of NY, Greenalite lamps were made by S. Robert Schwartz and Bro. of Brooklyn, NY and Amronlite and Verdelite lamps were both made by Faries Manufacturing Co. of Decatur, IL.
This listing is for an authentic, period Verdelite shade made by Faries and dates from 1917 to about 1920. Fairies made bases that could be used for either their Verdelite or their Amronlite shades, since the shade holders were identical. So, if you have either a Verdelite or Amronlite base, and you need an authentic shade, then this shade will fit your base, if your base has the kind of shade holder that takes this kind of shade. Ive included four pictures of the kind of shade holder that is necessary for this shade. Ive also included a picture of one of the original advertisements for Verdelite showing this identical shade on one of their bases. Please note that the base and advertisement shown in the last four pictures are not included in this listing. The listing is only for the shade and the hardware that is shown on the shade.
Note that the shade is signed Verdelite on the hardware attached to the glass. Also, note that the right and left side of the shade have the "concentric circle" blown-out look. This is how Faries made their Verdelite shades when they first went into production in 1917. But, shortly after they started making the shade this way, they changed to the style shade where the sides were flat instead of the concentric circles. So, that dates this shade to 1917 or only a few years afterwards.
Keep in mind that there are tons of "shadeless" bases out there, since the shades broke but the bases didnt. Its the shade that is so hard to find by itself and where 80% of the complete lamps value is.
The shade is in excellent condition with only one minor nick on the INSIDE bottom edge of the white glass only. The nick does not go through to the green glass, cannot be seen from the outside and does not affect the visual horizontal line of the bottom edge of the shade. Note that this shade comes with the all-important hardware that screws onto the shade and allows you to slide the shade into the base. The glass without the hardware wouldnt be usable, but this shade comes complete with the hardware attached.....even all the original screws are present. Also note that the off-white color on the inside of the hardware is original......these shade holders came that way about 90% of the time.
So, if you have a base without a shade, heres your chance to complete your lamps and make it totally functional at a price that is less than youd have to pay for a whole lamp.
