The boards are covered in golden-tan cloth with green titling blind stamped on cover and spine. The surfaces are very clean, free of fading or stains with modest wear to the edges that occurs primarily at the points with horizonal wrinkling at the head and tail of the spine but no tears or fraying. The book has been fitted with a see through Jacket of clear Archival Mylar to protect it in the future. The interior reveals green and cream photographic end pages, the same front and rear. The paper covering both hinges is cracked and a strip of Acid Free mending tissue has been laid down over this vertical crack to help protect the webbing underneath which appeared completely intact. The contents are clean, firly bound with no loose or mis-alligned pages, slightly age toned but free of foxing, with significant no marks, creases noted and no previous owner notations. Robert Dean Frisbie, became a noteworthy author and individual following his move from California to the Cook Islands in 1924. Being an appreciator of tropical islands and solitude, Mr. Frisbie settled on the Island of Puka-Puka producing his first literary work immortalizing that island and his talent at child rearing in “The Book of Puka-puka”, c. 1929. MR. MOONLIGHTS ISLAND is noted to be Mr. Frisbies third published work. For those who may not have digested the entirety of his endeavors, Mr. Moonlight is indeed the Author himself and Danger Island upon which the story takes place is also known as Puka-Puka. MR. MOONLIGHTS ISLAND followed THE BOOK OF PUKA-PUKA being published only some ten years later, but without exact references to the personalities and location, it may have not been quite so enthusiastically received as its for-runner and MY TAHITI. Further, the publication date of 1939 with war raging in Europe and the possibility of the U.S. States following suite, the interest in south sea adventures might have been a bit compromised. Currently it is unusual for one to become available, particularly in good condition and to date there appears to have been no reprints issued. This copy of MR. MOONLIGHTS ISLANDwould be a prized addition to any Pacific Island collection.
