DESCRIPTION
An 1872 edition of this work, which was first published in 1848.
This work is notable in its record of Edinburghs many historic buildings, which were at risk of being demolished in the rapid development of the city centre.
Volume I illustrated with a folding map frontispiece, and twenty-one plates. Volume II illustrated with nineteen plates. Collated, complete.
Illustrated with engraved plates based on the authors own drawings.
With chapters dedicated ecclesiastical antiquities, the suburbs, the castle, and Parliament Close, alongside other Edinburgh regions.
CONDITION
Rebacked, in the publishers original cloth bindings, with back strip laid down and retaining the original boards. Bumping to back strip heads and tails. Retaining the original endpapers. Front hinges of volumes I and II strained and firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright. Majority of leaves unopened to head.
