This is an exceedingly rare book - seldom seen for sale. I believe this book was reprinted at some point - even the reprints are nearly unattainable.

MEGIDDO II - SEASONS OF 1935 - 39 PLATES - BY THE MEGIDDO EXPEDITION - GORDON LOUD - FIELD DIRECTOR

Published by The University of Chicago Press - Oriental Institute Publications - Volume LXII (62) - 1948. The book is not paginated, but contains nearly 300 plates (illustrations). Illustrations consist of black and white drawings, but more soblack and white photos of artifacts recovered during excavations. This volume is only the illustrations. There is a separate text volume - not included here.

The excavations at Megiddo have yielded some of the greatest archeologicalfinds in history. The Megiddo site is located in northern Israel, about 30 km south-east of Haifa. Excavations began there around the turn of the century and continue to this day. Settlements at Megiddo began perhaps 7000 BC and continued through the ages. Megiddo was always a significant site and consisted of notable structures of several ancient civilizations. Of major importance in regards to history of Israel, the Middle East and religious/biblical background.

Illustrations include just about every type of ancient artifact imaginable, to include pottery, vessels, effigy figures, beads, bronze items, iron items, and implements and ornaments of all kinds.

As I looked through these photos, I was stunned when I viewed the bronze spears and knives. These are strikingly similar to the artifacts from the ancient copper culture of North America. Surely makes one wonder....

Very good condition overall. Library marking on spine, but no other significant library markings on the interior. Evidence of label removed from first blank page. No torn pages. Binding sound. All photos clear and clean. Covers and spine have only slight wear. Leather-like spine. See photos please.
