Natalis, vente en gros no Chronograph but Chronostop, Veterinary Use, 1950s

Description: Extremely rare, gilt (20 µm) brass cased chronostop watch. Screw down stainless steel case back, outside stamped with production info. Original, silvered dial printed in black ‘Natalis Stop' at '12' and ‘Waterproof Incabloc 17 Jewels' at ‘6'. Black printed minute track and Pulsation scale, red printed Telemeter scale. Black Arabic numerals filled with radium (gone grey). Original gold plated brass crown. Original blued hands with original radium, red seconds hand.

Additional Info: The use of ETA calibre 1168 was uncommon. This watch is almost in NOS condition and shows only very few signs of wear. The pusher at ‘2' stops the second hand when pushed, once released the seconds hand continues to run. The pusher at ‘4' zeroes the second hand as long as it is pushed. Once released the second hand runs again. 

By definition this watch is not a chronograph, as it has a continuously running, central hand which can be ‘zeroed' with the pusher at ‘4', but it can not be permanently stopped from running. This timing system was used for synchronisation and timing for periods not longer than one minute. 

This watch was designed to be used by veterinary professionals as it incorporates the ‘pulsation scale' for determining the heart rate calibrated for '60 pulsations', thus for measuring the heart rate of mid-sized animals such as sheep, dogs, cats and rabbits. Watches with pulsation scales to be used in humans are calibrated for 15 – 30 pulsations.
