DESCRIPTION
Illustrated with eight plates to volume I, seven of which are folding, and with ten plates to volume II, with one folding. Collated, complete.
This richly illustrated study of Dover, its surroundings, Dover Castle, and its ports offers detailed insight into the town at the start of the nineteenth century.
With the armorial bookplate of C. J. Phillips to each front pastedown, dated 1904, and inscription to head of volume I front pastedown.
A smart copy of this historical and topographical study.
CONDITION
In contemporary quarter cloth bindings, with paper covered boards. Volume II lacking majority of spine label. Loss of cloth to head of volume II back strip. Bumping to spine heads and tails, with fading to back strips. Bumping and marks to boards. Rear joint of volume I starting at head and tail, and a touch tenderly held. Hinges strained but firmly held. Armorial bookplates to front pastedowns, inscription to volume I front pastedown. Spotting throughout, with the odd ink notation to gutters. Offsetting to plates.
