The works of Bossuet, complete in five beautifully bound uniform volumes.
Published by Librairie Hachette Et Cie. in the mid to late nineteenth century.
Jaques-Benigne Bossuet was a French theologian from the seventeenth century best known for his sermons and addresses. He believed in the divine right of Kings and political absolutism. He wrote many works on religion and philosophy.
Prior owner’s bookplates to the front pastedowns of each volume. From the library of Thomas Benfield Harbottle.
These are reprint editions published at varying dates: Volume I, 1877; Volume II, 1872; Volume III, 1872; Volume IV, 1871; Volume V, 1868.
CONDITION
In full straight grain morocco bindings. Externally, very smart. There is some minor bumping to the heads and tails of the spines and to the extremities. The spines are rubbed somewhat Prior owners book plates to the first paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot.
